2015 String Poet Prize Winners

I am very pleased to announce that the winner of the 2015 String Poet Prize is John Beaton. Congratulations to this excellent poet and Spherean. As his prize, John will receive $1,000 and a String Poet-commissioned piece of music (inspired by his winning poem) set by a renowned composer. Congrats also to our runners-up: Katharyn Howd Machan, Susan Kelly-DeWitt, and Ingrid Wendt. Thank you to all who entered. Look for details about our Awards Ceremony, upcoming issues, and prize in the new year.

2015 String Poet Prize Winners

String Poet, the journal where poetry and music meet, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, and we are proud to have published so many fine Sphereans throughout our issues (several of whom have won the String Poet Prize in years past). Here's to the next five years!

Good show, John! A fine award. Glad to hear it.

Congratulations to John Beaton on this great news. If you're looking in, John, am I right that "Midwinter Music" was posted at TDE a while back? I remember something about ice and winter and liking it a lot, but I might be thinking of a different poem.

Congratulations, John!

Thanks, Annabelle, Janice, Andrew, Susan, and Mike.

I haven't posted here for a while but I've been looking in and I'm still writing and performing regularly in the local community and beyond.

This was a happy surprise. Thanks to Annabelle for "String Poet" and for organizing such a unique contest, and thanks to Bruce Guernsey, the final judge. Also, congratulations to the runners-up.

Andrew, that would have been another poem. This one is set in the Orkney Isles, which Joyce and I visit every year. I understand I'll have another two poems in "String Poet" and both of those were workshopped on The Deep End some years ago.

All the best to old friends here and thanks again.

John

Thanks, Rob, Siham, and Nemo. The grounding I got here on the 'Sphere certainly helped.
