"New" authors at Able Muse Press

Dear Eratosphereans,

I'm pleased to announce that I’ve accepted two poetry manuscripts for Able Muse Press’ general publication stream (outside of contests), with expected release timeline of spring/summer next year.

This is a preliminary announcement - 'official' details coming soon - but the suspects might be known in these quarters, and I'm letting them man (or woman) their own thunder ... so, they might jump in or jump out to fill in their own details.

Cheers,
...Alex

Well, I am still absorbing this, having only learned of it yesterday ....

Alex has kindly accepted my full-length manuscript, "Nevertheless" for publication. It seems fitting after all these years, having cut my teeth here on the sphere, that my book should be published by Able Muse. I'm grateful to Alex, and to all those here who have been so vocal in their appreciation -- and disappointment -- in my work, and specifically toward my hybrid approach to the art. So, to all of you from the early days
in the wild west, thank you, for lettin' me, be myself ...

Am very curious to know who the other author is ...

Michael Cantor 10-01-2010 03:53 PM

Yay, Wendy! One of our bestest and brightest.

That is lovely. Absolutely lovely.

Catherine Chandler 10-01-2010 06:26 PM

Early this morning I read Alex's e-mail telling me my MS had been chosen for publication. I was thrilled beyond words.

I have many people to thank for this, not least of all Alex, who has maintained this site for so long, without which many of my poems would never have reached the "final revision" stage, thanks to the generous comments and suggestions of my esteemed fellow poets.

I also owe a world of gratitude to Rhina Espaillat who encouraged me and who steered me to the Eratosphere, which I had never heard of at the time; also Alicia Stallings who wrote in her critique of my very first posted poem at "Metrical" that it was worthy of the "Deep End" ; and Timothy Murphy, who has been an inspiration over the years.

A full-length collection is truly my dream-come-true. I feel honored that Able Muse Press has seen fit to accept it for publication.

Cathy

I just knew you'd be the other one, Cathy! It had to be. Quality.

Thrilled for both of you.

Good on ya, Alex!

Much deserved. I am really happy for you.

Fabulous news, Wendy and Cathy. Congratulations!

Susan

Carol Trese 10-01-2010 09:36 PM

Big Congrats! Can't wait to hold these books in my hands and read!

Andrew Frisardi 10-01-2010 09:44 PM

Kudos to Wendy and Cathy for this -- much deserved! And congratulations to Alex for getting the publishing sphere rolling so propitiously.

Tim Murphy 10-01-2010 10:47 PM

This is a great announcement. I have "mentored" Wendy and Cathy for a decade. But Wendy is young enough biologically to be my daughter, and Cathy is my exact contemporary. I remember though, as if it were yesterday, Alan Sullivan's excitement at their arrivals at the Sphere. "You have to read this woman," he would shout.

Cathy's is an extremely conservative form of verse, rhymed pentameter in the main. Wendy's is a radical form of verse which can only be compared to Kay Ryan.

When I was a kid I figured out the two most important things that would occur in my life would be for women to reach equality with men and for China to reach equality with the West. Forty years later, looks like I was right on both.

I want to extend my heartiest congratulations to Wendy Videloth and Cathy Chandler on their first trade press publications, and I want to thank Alex for choosing these two beautiful manuscripts as his debut volumes. yr lariat, Timothy

Response to Alex Pepple.

Well they both "mentor" me right back, my friend. They've just been unfailing friends for years. I hope you'll have an opportunity to do Maryann next. John Beaton and Stephen Collington too! When I came to the Sphere, Alex, 10970 posts ago, some of them written dead drunk, only Alicia and I had trade books, and look where we are today. Of course we've recruited Rhina and Sam and John Whitworth who have a score of books among them. Heck, I've got ten now, once Lewis and Clark gets done with me. And certainly Alan would be cheering these first two collections.

You've done an amazing thing, Alex. You're sort of the Diagilev of Poetry. Tim

Michael Cantor 10-02-2010 08:24 AM

Let me add congrats to Catherine for a well-deserved book to those I already passed on to Wendy. Good choices!

Maryann Corbett 10-02-2010 09:49 AM

Congratulations, Cathy!

Adam Elgar 10-02-2010 09:54 AM

Great, great news - many congratulations Wendy and Cathy!
Sorry to be slow coming to this, but I'm delighted.

John Beaton 10-02-2010 10:17 AM

Warm and well-deserved congratulations, Wendy and Cathy. I look forward to adding your collections to my bookshelf.

And thanks to you, Alex, for these fine initiatives on the Able Muse Press front.

John

Thanks, Tim! You're one of those who was here when it all began, and Sphereans have accomplished great things since then. I'm glad to be in the position to add first books to that list for two bright talents ... who also happen to be long-time Sphereans. So, congrats again, Cathy and Wendy! I'm sure the EfH's spirit is much pleased as well.

Cheers,
...Alex

I am so thrilled for you! A well deserved and exquisite honor!

Thanks,

Bill

Oh, gawd, Videloth is priceless. It's even better than Videolock, or Videlop. Timothy, I wish I had some more years to go, but alas ...not nearly young enough to be your daughter.

Cathy, so happy to hear... smiles and congratulations.

Thank you all for good words.

Ah, words.

Cathy, Wendy
mazeltov and mazeltov!
wonderful news.

Michael Cantor 10-02-2010 01:40 PM

To me, even after all the recognition, and the multiple pubs in Poetry, you're still quiet little Wendy Visigoth.

Tim Murphy 10-02-2010 06:15 PM

Well Michael she is Visigoth to me too, which is why she is so crazy about Alan's Beowulf.

Gail White 10-02-2010 06:37 PM

High time too, especially for Catherine, after all those wonderful sonnets!
Looking forward to the books--

Philip Quinlan 10-03-2010 03:52 PM
