Anthology invite

Jim Klein, editor of The Red Wheelbarrow Poets Anthology, published by the William Carlos Willams Poetry Cooperative, asked for a chapter of my poem, Soutine, which he’d heard me read last month. This would be my first anthologized work. The poem will likely be finished by the time the anthology is out, so the attention may be well-timed.

This is quite wonderful. Congratulations!

You are having very good success at getting editors to respond to your poems by hearing them. Maybe the rest of us should ask for pointers!

Rick Mullin 02-03-2011 11:47 AM

You gotta hit the street before noon.

--Thanks, Maryann.

Julie Steiner 02-03-2011 12:43 PM

Congrats! How exciting.

Tracey Gratch 02-03-2011 01:03 PM

Congratulations, Rick. That is fantastic!

Tracey

(BTW, I really enjoyed the last installment here, but didn't get a chance to say it!)

Janice D. Soderling 02-03-2011 01:07 PM

Rick, this is wonderful news. That poem is a winner. Original subject matter and well-crafted.

Cally Conan-Davies 02-03-2011 01:16 PM

Which chapter, Rickster??

I'm over-the-moon to hear this. It's a big, completely deserved, deal!!

Cally

Gail White 02-03-2011 01:33 PM

Splendid news!

(And Cally, I assume you're okay, which is also splendid news).

Rick Mullin 02-03-2011 01:49 PM

Thanks Gail,

And just what I was thinking.

Thanks Tracy, Julie, Janice and Cally--Cally let us know!

I'm fine, Gail and Rick! I posted a brief account of the damage on the GT thread yesterday so you would know. Just to prove to you I am alive and kicking, and another day is dawning calm across the Pacific, I snapped this for you a moment ago. I'm preparing to hit the road again soon. Lots to do!

Love and thanks for your caring!

Cally

Rick Mullin 02-03-2011 02:58 PM

Thanks Cally--You look resilient and altogether radiant. Above all, safe and sound. I always pay close attention to the hands in a portrait. They say a lot here--along the lines of, "I'm preparing to hit the road again soon. Lots to do!"

All our best to Janet.

Woo Hoo

Rick,

This is the best news I have heard in a long while, and I've needed cheering. So well deserved -- Soutine is an excellent piece. I'm thrilled for you...

and off to brave the snow and ice for a night class...

Marybeth

Rick Mullin 02-03-2011 10:04 PM

Thanks Marybeth.

It's the last two sections of of Book 2, Chapter 3 that Jim likes, where Soutine experiences the Louvre.

Congratulations, Rick. Getting the work done and getting the work out are two different acts and you seem to be skilled at both.

Andrew Frisardi 02-03-2011 11:41 PM

Nothing beats having someone ask you for it! Soutine's an excellent read so I'm not surprised. Congrats, Rick.

Pedro Poitevin 02-04-2011 04:54 AM

Congratulations, Rick!

Catherine Chandler 02-05-2011 08:21 PM

Congratulations, Rick.

David Rosenthal 02-05-2011 08:31 PM

Very cool deal Rick. Congrats. By the way, "Spirit of '76" is my favorite piece int he current Soundzine, especially your reading of it. Your "Ah ha ha!" is worth the price of admission.

Great to hear about it, Rick. Congrats!

W.F. Lantry 02-07-2011 10:10 AM

How'd I miss this? Huge congrats! Excellent news...

By the way, who's the attractive woman pictured in this thread? She looks both cool and exotic....

Thanks,

Bill

Wendy Sloan 02-12-2011 09:38 AM

Me too, Bill -- how did I miss this?

Congratulations, Rick.
I mean -- you haven't even finished writing it yet, and it's already being anthologized????
That's amazing!

P.S. Cally -- you look terrific! Those images really make me wonder what I'm doing here struggling down the alternately ice-covered, slushy NYC sidewalks day after day ... I'm moving to Australia !
