Absent for a while
 

Dear Friends,

Many of you know my mother has been very ill for the past two years. Tonight I received a phone call from one of my sisters that she has now been diagnosed with a brain tumor. I am leaving for Wilkes-Barre tomorrow morning and don't know when I'll be back. I've advised Alex and he is going to look into The Deep End now and again while I'm away.

Hello Cathy,

Nice to meet you though the occasion is a sad one.Hope you are out of the denial phase to accept this very bad news which is always difficult to accept.I do not ramble around much on Eratosphere but I was hurt by this disclosure as well. The reason being my own ailing 90 years old mother who lives with me. I know how such bad news give one a jolt and how one cannot shake it off.

Cathy though we do not know each other on the level others know you but my sympathies and sincerest of prayers are with you.

Cathy, some of us have already been there....or will be as Michael said. It's not an easy trip...our mothers are mighty special to us. I am so glad you are able to fly home to be with her...our thoughts and love fly with you.

I have been absent from these pages for a while for a horribly similar reason. So I wish you the strength and patience I have been straining to find. Your mother is so fortunate to have your attention and care. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

A final note of thanks to my Eratosphere friends whose loving messages of comfort and support these past weeks and especially since July 10 have helped me through this most difficult time. Blessings on you all.

Catherine, all of us who share the experience of a long and stressful illness, the incredible loss at the end will continue to hold you, your family and your aging father in our thoughts and prayers. This is, perhaps, the toughest time of all...when all the details, visitations, the Mass, etc. are done...it is over and you are left, at last, to mourn it alone.

I know we will all come to see beautiful sonnets from you about this loss....for now, though, please rest and take good care of you.
