Governor General Award Reading 2012
On Nov 1 -- check it out, if you're close to Montreal, Canada ... with reading by James Pollock from Sailing to Babylon, and reading by all the other finalists -- details here.

Congrats James and Alex and AM. I notice Julie Bruck on the list -- she is a Bay Arean. I haven't met her, but she teaches courses at the Writing Salon, where I also teach.

This is wonderful, Alex. Congrats to you, and James Pollock.

I'll be there, it's a 5 min drive from my house, plus McGimpsey teaches at my university. I hope James wins it, Canada generally does not recognize formalist writers -- even if it is the GG award :]
|
Certainly a very big deal, and congratulations are due to the publisher as well as the author.
(Is it out of line to ask who is eligible for the award? Information seems to be scarce, and I notice that a number of finalists don't live in Canada.) |
You gotta be a canuck, c'est ca.
|
Maryann,
Yes, you gotta be a Canuck, natural-born or naturalized. AND the publishing house has to have had at least four titles under its belt in order to nominate one of its authors (thus Lines of Flight wasn't eligible for a nomination in 2011). However, I'm THRILLED for James and Able Muse Press (Alex) and wouldn't miss this reading for the world! See ya there, Jesse! Cathy |
Thanks, everyone! Jesse & Cathy, it's great you can make it! And I trust you'll have something to report to Sphereans afterward, right?
Cheers, ...Alex |
Sure Alex, I'll bring a camera too, and Bill Lantry can help me post the photos I get : /

Yea, Alex and James Pollock! Wish I could attend. Susan

Just in from the reading. We caught the last half of James' segment, and a couple of french poets after that. Catherine was there as well, all smiles and good vibes. I snapped 5 or 6 pictures, some are a little murky, all are black and whites.
I'll post them demain. Bon Soir mes amis. J |
I was there from the beginning and heard all eight finalists (4 in English, 4 in French) who were there (two couldn't make it).
James read beautifully, ending with his lovely Northwest Passage poem. Let's keep our fingers crossed for James. Winners will be announced on November 13. |

I can't figure out how to post the photos...help!
J |
Thanks everyone for this report.
Jesse, look under FAQ at http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/view.p...#_Toc239789959 See, I really am your true blue buddy. :) How do I post an image? First, the image must be on the internet somewhere. If it is already on a website, you can use that URL. If not, you will need to upload it from your computer to Erato's server. You can use the attachment function to upload an image to the Eratosphere server. |

Here are some pics (Thanks Janice! That was a breeze)
James and Cathy, James, Cathy and myself, Ellie, Cathy and James, and one of the lay of the room. Best, J |
Delightful addition to the photo archive. Lovely to see James in action and Cathy and Jesse on the support team.
(And what a great pic of pretty Ellie too!) |
Cathy and Jess, thanks for the reports and photos ... it sounds like it went really well!
