First Things

The new issue has a witty poem from John Whitworth and a gorgeously beautiful one by Maryann Corbett.

Maryann Corbett 03-16-2015 09:29 AM

Mike, thank you! Which poem? I haven't seen a contributor's copy.
Paul L. recently took two of mine, and one never knows with First Things whether a poem will appear soon or not for a year or more.

(Editing back: I should learn a little patience. My copy came in today's mail.)

Michael Juster 03-16-2015 11:19 AM

Your poem is "Pelicans at Nags Head' and John's is "The Scapegoat."

Roger Slater 03-16-2015 11:56 AM

Congratulations to you both.

I love it that Maryann didn't know which "gorgeously beautiful" poem of hers Mike meant. For most people that description would narrow things down quite a bit.

Maryann Corbett 03-16-2015 01:15 PM

Mike, thanks again. Roger, LOL.

Gail White 03-16-2015 02:35 PM

Congratulations to Maryann & John!

Janice D. Soderling 03-16-2015 04:05 PM

Congratulations Maryann and John.

Terese Coe 03-16-2015 07:11 PM

Congratulations, you two! Will look for the poems.

John Whitworth 03-17-2015 12:07 AM

It's nice to know I'm witty. I'd rather be gorgeously beautiful, but you can't have everything.

Confetti! Beautiful and witty sounds like a fine pair. Good to see an example of industriousness in submission, too. (Alas, I am not industrious in that way.)

Michael Juster 03-17-2015 03:58 PM

John, I hate to break it to you, but you're not in Maryann's league in that category.

John Whitworth 03-17-2015 05:53 PM

You're not looking at me from my best angle, Michael.

Jean L. Kreiling 03-18-2015 06:56 AM

Congratulations, John and Maryann. I see Maryann's poem online, and it's just a stunner:

Thanks, Jean, for the link and for the kind words. I figured John's excellent poem must be up too, and so it is, so here's the link.

The Scapegoat

Jean L. Kreiling 03-19-2015 08:23 AM

Ah, yes, thanks, Maryann. A Whitworthian gem!

Paul Lake 03-19-2015 08:58 AM

A Link to John Whitworth's poem

Enjoy!

I'm delighted by the good poems in the current issue of First Things, esp. by these two.
