Miss Jekyll's Gardening Boots
The courier came. My latest collection, Miss Jekyll's Gardening Boots, is now a real hold-in-your-hand book from Shoestring Press. I am a little afraid of it. (The book, not the publisher...)
It will be launched in London on evening of the 25th of November at the Betsey Trotwood in Clerkenwell. I hope it floats. (The book, not the Betsey...) |
Fantastic news, Annie.

Seriously, congratulations! I'm delighted for you as author and me as reader. |
"Miss Jekyll's Gardening Boots" - wasn't that an early Agatha Christie? Or am I confusing it with "The Way of a Man With a Maid"? At any rate, the title is delicious, and I'm sure the book will be as well. How do we order it?

Thank you all. I'm glad the title is tempting - so are the boots. To me, they are irresistible. That's the point of the (ekphrastic) title poem based on a portrait of said boots which was painted by Sir William Nicholson when the tetchy old sod (Miss G) made him wait outside for a portrait sitting with the rest of her. Using that image on the cover solves the age-old problem of how to make sure the reader "sees" the picture.
Ordering is difficult from Shoestring Press. This is what they say on their website: For sales, please use the order form provided and send with a cheque or postal order to the above address. Please note: Unfortunately Shoestring Press can not accept direct orders from outside the UK. However, all our publications are available through our distributors: Address: Central Books 99 Wallis Rd London E9 5LN England, UK Telephone: 0208 986 4854 Website: http://www.centralbooks.com I rang those folk up and spoke to a lovely chap called James who tells me that their website's down at the moment but if you order through them you'll pay cover price plus postage costs. I haven't investigated Amazon. I, however, have some copies for which I paid a bit less than cover price. Enough of a difference for me to say that if you PayPal me (at my email address) the cover price (ten pounds sterling) I'll post them to you (signed, if you like) at no extra charge. Sort of "mates' rates". Many of you already know my email address; PM me if you'd like it. A caveat, though. Some of the poems appeared in the chapbook that Nemo published. My thanks to him appear in the book. And some, of course, slid momentarily across the Sphere... |
Lovely news, Annie; congratulations.
I was hoping I could attend the event as I do like to support my friends whenever I can, but something has cropped up (only today, darn it!) which will prevent me. Have a wonderful evening for the launch. A cheque is in the post to you; can't wait to receive my signed copy. Jayne |
Major kudos, Annie!!
