Looks like an awesome tour. I wish I were in NYC to see it.

Any chance you'll make it up to the Boston area?

Aaron Poochigian 09-27-2017 12:40 PM

Love to add a stop in Boston. Any series you would recommend, Andrew? I don't know the scene.

Andrew Frisardi 09-27-2017 12:47 PM

Congratulations, Aaron. Sounds awesome. Any video or audio forthcoming eventually from the readings?

Aaron Poochigian 09-27-2017 02:48 PM

I hope to have a video trailer for the book soon, and I will link to footage of the readings after they take place. Trust me--I'm not shy.

John Isbell 09-27-2017 02:52 PM

Congratulations, Aaron, it sounds great!

In Boston, if in doubt, you might reach out to the Grolier Poetry Bookshop in Harvard Square:

Grolier Poetry Book Shop Front Page
www.grolierpoetrybookshop.org/

I bought William McGonagall's Collected Poems there.

Cheers,
John

Andrew Szilvasy 09-27-2017 04:45 PM

Sadly, I can't say I "know the scene" well either. I've never really given a reading, and haven't had the chance to go to many outside of a few places and college venues you probably have to book long in advance.

John's recommendation is a good one; I've been to a reading at Brookline Booksmith as well that was good. I have a friend who does readings about town, and I'll let you know when she gets back to me.

Allen Tice 09-27-2017 04:53 PM

A consequence of having a "belle" as my wife (see posts # 9 & 10 here) and married daughters is that scheduling is hard to foresee. I am familiar with the most scarlet KGB venue (let's all sing about the Volga boatmen now), though not yet with the other uptown. I will hope for the best.

Mark McDonnell 09-27-2017 05:19 PM

Any chance you're swinging by the sleepy market town of Leek in Staffordshire? If so, I'll definitely pencil it in, weather permitting. We don't really have a 'scene', though we do have scenery. And we don't have a poetry bookshop where people give readings, but we do have an Oxfam shop where people have been known to mumble in tongues.

Seriously though, good luck with it...;)

Aaron Poochigian 09-28-2017 10:06 AM

Thank you, John and Andrew S., I will check out the bookstores you suggest. Yes, Boston. It’s time. I have only read there once, I believe for the New England Poetry Society. I will scope out poetry venues and try to set something up for early 2018.

Allen, I would love to see you at the KGB. We could talk Sappho in any one of the four dark corners of the bar. It’s something about the wood in that room—it resonates well with my voice. I would love to meet your belle as well.

Mark, I would love to read in Leek. A quick search has revealed that it is on the charmingly named river Churnet near the mysterioso Blackshaw moor (where the “Hound of the Baskervilles” is set?). Yes, a European tour. I’ll see what I can do. Best,

Aaron

Rick Mullin 09-28-2017 10:17 AM

I will try to get to the At the Inkwell reading.

But you are definitely flying over the fly-over states!

RM

Aaron Poochigian 09-28-2017 10:44 AM

Rick, I would love to see you there. Yes, there's only so much money to spend on travel so we're doing major metros. I am trying to set up a gig in Youngstown, Ohio (but don't tell Ohio that New Yorkers consider it flyover! I've been there--a proud state).

What state is round on the sides and high in the middle?

Ohio.

Get it?

Andrew Szilvasy 09-28-2017 11:17 AM

One friend got back to me and suggested Porter Square Books might be an avenue. I've been to prose readings there, though it had slipped my mind since I haven't been there in years.

He also suggested that you check out MassPoetry.org

Aaron Poochigian 09-28-2017 12:29 PM

Will do, Andrew. Hmn. Porter Square--one of the famous squares of Boston. Thank you.

Andrew Szilvasy 09-28-2017 03:31 PM

Another thought: perhaps the Powwows would set you up in Newburyport for a reading, which isn't too far north, and could make an easy double-dip.

Allen Tice 09-28-2017 05:41 PM

Aaron, I'm consulting with my extraordinary spouse, Maryellen, and it's really likely we can do the KGB, corners or not. Maybe I'll bring a flashlight, as I recall the light away from the podium isn't strong. We might scope out DTUT beforehand too, and make it a possibility for me, at least -- if you haven't used up all your best material at the KGB. As for Sappho, we (I and thou) could fruitfully puzzle at which parent she lost while very young (according to Ovid). On δεδυκε, I'd want to agree to disagree (if we disagree) like the gentlemen we are, and together storm the walls of Troy after imbibing.

Mark McDonnell 09-29-2017 07:56 AM

Aaron, you'd be more than welcome, Leek is a lovely place despite my flippancy. Alas, I'm pretty sure Hound of the Baskervilles was Dartmoor, down in the south of the country. And we can't claim Cathy and Heathcliff either, who were further north. But our moors are great moors. We have the best moors. (Sorry, I 'Trumped out' for a second. Been reading another thread...)

Andrew Szilvasy 10-07-2017 04:17 PM

Some other Boston-based suggestions sent along to me:
Brookline Poetry Series, one sunday a month at Brookline Public Library
Trident Bookstore & Cafe Downtown
Porter Square Books
Brookline Booksmith
Wellesley Booksmith
Newtonville Books
The Coop
Groliers
Some of these overlap, obviously, with other suggestions, but I just cut and pasted her thoughts.

Aaron Poochigian 10-07-2017 04:57 PM

Thanks to you and your friend for the list, Andrew. I will solicit all those venues. Boston 2018!

Allen Tice 11-03-2017 05:13 PM

Aaron, I don't think my wife can come. Sorry.

Aaron Poochigian 11-03-2017 05:26 PM

Sorry to hear that, Allen.

Andrew Szilvasy 11-04-2017 02:23 PM

Aaron,

In my response to Nausheen, I posted her tour. She's got a number of Boston venues (Cambridge, Rozzie, etc.) that you might consider looking into.

All this is to say, I hope you can make it to Boston.

Aaron Poochigian 11-04-2017 04:11 PM

Thank you very much. I will check out Nausheen's tour. I am working on setting up some Boston dates for 2018.

Thanks,

Aaron

Gregory Dowling 11-08-2017 03:27 AM

Hope you're getting packed houses. Looking forward to the European tour...

Aaron Poochigian 11-08-2017 06:21 AM

Thank you, Gregory. I read at the Players Club last night--I had the pleasure of hanging out with Spherians Claudia Gary and Allen Tice. Tonight the Commie Lit Bar the KGB!

Allen Tice 11-08-2017 10:58 AM

Aaron, you blew my silent run. Oh well, it's all right with me.
