L.A.M.P. (Literature, Art, Music, Play) Creativity-centered Games
Anyone interested in real-time drills and amusements may enjoy the gatherings of the Facebook group I started, L.A.M.P., on Sundays at 6:30 EST in February and though March 21st. Most of the games we haved played in the past involve some creativity in coming up with either words, or pictures, or music, including some of the online Jackbox games, Watch Your Words, and others. We also do other sorts of fun things, like Improv games. Another Spherian, with a closely related first name, Marion Shore, has gone to many of the game nights in which we've also shared some poetry/songs/or art. If you are interested, please join us and check it out (drops-ins and suggestions welcome) The Meetup sign up link is below :)

Thank-you!
That sounds lovely. I would love to drop in one day (probably one day when I don't have to be up very early on Monday). I have a rather lovely book of surrealist games if you're interested. Words and images and complete strangeness but with that tiny hint of rigidity the surrealists seemed to keep in their hearts. Sarah-Jane |
Oh, yes, that does sound interesting, and it lasts just till 8PM, so I hope you'll check it out sometime when you're able :)
|
8pm is 1am over here, Mario. Like Sarah, I really like the idea, but the timing is a challenge.
-Matt |
Same here, Mario. At 1 o'clock in the morning I start to look (and feel) like a zombie...
The time difference across The Pond makes it very difficult for us Brits to join in with stuff like this, into the wee small hours. I look after my two-and-a-half year old grandson every Monday, so I need to have a good night's sleep every Sunday! It sounds like a lot of fun. Say Hi to those who know us. :) Jayne |
It's do-able. The question is probably more whether you want a phalanx of middle-of-the-night Brits joining you in a gin-fuelled haze.
Sarah-Jane |
If there is interest across the pond, maybe I could try hosting one of the February events at noon EST which would put it at 6:00 PM across the pond. If so, does mid month at that time sound good? :)
|
Hi,
That is completely and utterly lovely of you. Yes, I would be interested, and I would bring my surrealist games book. That is slightly underwhelming as a party offering, but at least it will translate well to zoom. Thank-you! Sarah-Jane |
Jane, and Jayne, and Matt, I hope you will be able to attend, along with others who live across the pond from Boston, a special Transatlantic edition of the L.A.M.P games at 12:00 EST, which will translate, I think, to 6:00 PM across the pond. If you'd like to sign up, here's the link: :)

I'm signed up and looking forward to the event. Thank-you!
Sarah |
Just a note to say that this weekend L.A.M.P. will be hosting another event in addition to the noon event that we talked about earlier on this thread, this one also hopefully geared time-wise to world-wide participation. It will be a reading of Richard Wilbur's Tartuffe at 9 AM EST Saturday, in which the Zoom participants will be the performers! Anyone who would like to read or just listen is welcome :)
The Tartuffe text is located here: https://usm.maine.edu/sites/default/...718%2718 .pdf The link for signing up is here: https://www.meetup.com/L-A-M-P-Liter...ents/276156945 Mario |
I very much enjoyed attending the inaugural transatlantic L.A.M.P. meeting. Many thanks, Mario, for moving the times to make that possible and for being such a welcoming host. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Matt |
Great meeting you and playing games at which you and Sarh-Jane clobbered the rest of us! I hope to make the Transatlantic LAMP gathering a monthly event and hope to see you there! :)
|
Oh drat!!! I missed it, after you so kindly rescheduled it to include your Brit friends. (Too much other stuff going on at the moment :()
I'm really sorry, Mario. It was obviously a lot of fun. I'd love to come along next time!!! Jayne |
Hello!
Thank-you Mario, it was really fun. It's good to play, and you were a brilliant facilitator (letting us win was the icing on the cake). And the improv story at the end was gloriously surreal! I'll have a look at my book of surrealist games later and see if there are any that might be adapted, either to here or zoom, and throw them out as ideas in case anyone on either platform is interested. Your lying/word-game was very cool though, so I'm not sure they'd work as well as that. thanks again, Sarah-Jane |
The next gathering is scheduled for the 14th, by which point my copy of the book of Surrealist games will have arrived, in time to figure out how to transform some into online versions! I hope everyone on this thread will be able to make it to that one! :)

Thank-you Mario,
I hope you enjoy the book (I think it's amazing, full of ideas and games). I'll put the 14th in my diary. Sarah-Jane |
Hi, Sarah-Jane,
I didn't see your registration for the event, so in case there's any trouble with meetup, here's the direct link for Sunday at Noon EST (6 your time?): https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82209819943 We will play adapted games from the Surrealist games book! :) Mario |
Uh, oh.
Mario, you might need to set up a new Zoom link and send it to all the registrants (and Sarah-Jane) privately, if you don't want uninvited guests to come in and trash the place. Something bad happened when a Zoom link was posted here last month. |
Hi Mario,
I notice there are two events on Meetup for the same day and time; one with 3 attendees, one with 6. Assuming you change the link above, does it matter which I sign up to in terms of getting the Zoom link? I guess I could do both ... Anyway, hopefully see you tomorrow. Matt |
Thanks for the warning, Julie! So far, I haven't had any trouble with that, maybe because there's a waiting room. I think for this one, I'll leave it, because we will be playing surrealist games in which we will be inviting unforeseen elements of the unconscious so maybe a zoom crasher of nefarious intent could be seen in that context before they are booted.
Thanks for the heads up, Matt, I'm not sure that happened, but I think one of them was set up to start at midnight rather than at Noon! I updated the links to both be for the 12 noon event. For those planning to attend (all who have responded, I hope!), please note that that daylight savings time has moved the clocks forward an hour here, so that may affect when it starts for anyone across the pond. :) |
Thanks for flagging up the clock change, I was still adding 5 hours on. So it's now at 4pm instead of 5pm. (Odd that Meetup doesn't do the conversion automatically).
Matt |
Hello!
Mario - I was all set to attend - I'd booked onto meetup - and was very much looking forward to this - but in a quirky twist of fate I now have to collect my lateral flow home testing kits (what fun) & the allotted time clashes with the meeting. I am so sorry, as it sounds amazing, and I hope you all have an amazing time today. take care, Sarah-Jane |
Oh, that's too bad, Sara-Jane :( Hope to see you next time!
Matt, Meetup does the conversions here automatically, so I'm surprised too :o |
.
Hi Mario, I had great fun reading aloud Tartuffe and playing the part of Orgon a few weeks back. The role was not much of a stretch for me. Life in general blindsides me with it beauty : ) I hope L.A.M.P. continues to offer these types of theatrical readings. It's a seldom-felt vicarious adventure for me as I haven't played roles on stage for quite a while and it felt good. . Best, Jim |
Thanks for commenting, Jim, and reminding me that I have been meaning to set up the next one! I am hoping to have one for all the Wilbur play translations. As before, in hopes of attracting readers from the other side of both large ponds, it will be held at 9AM EST. Would Saturday the 27th at that hour work for you?
|
.
Yes 3/27 at 9amEST works for me. Hopefully we can attract a cast of closet character actors : ) . |
We will have at least one more actress, and, yes, hopefully we can get more interested! I'll post it in the Richard Wilbur group on Facebook. Here's the link:
