It’s so lovely it hurts. Ouch. (That's high praise.)

Nice one, Matt! Smooth and sanative.

Many thanks!

This was workshopped here about three years back -- which shows how useless I am at sending things out -- so thanks to everyone for the helpful critique back then.

Wonderful, Matt! It has a similar miraculous simplicity that all my fave poems have, such as "So We'll Go No More Aroving".

Martin Elster 09-01-2021 12:25 AM

Nice poem, Matt. Congrats!

Matt Q 09-05-2021 08:11 AM

Many thanks, Rick, Cally, and Martin.

Cally, that's a very flattering comparison! After I read it, I went and put on Leonard Cohen's sung version of it, which is how I first came across Byron's poem (I have a shocking lack of literary education!). Curiously enough, I had a Cohen tune in my head when I wrote this poem, his Take this Waltz (which is his translation of Lorca's Little Viennese Waltz).

Thanks John!

Matt,

I hope it's OK to add this link here for you. I thought PMing it would deprive others from enjoying this little song with lyrics in Rimbaud's own handwriting on the screen.

Congrats to Matt <(:-)

It's a beautiful poem, with potential to be set to music imho.

Best wishes,
Fliss

Matt Q 09-11-2021 04:49 AM

Mignon, thank you for the song link.

Fliss, thanks! I do tend to sing this poem to a tune in waltz time.

F.F. Teague 09-11-2021 08:18 AM

You're welcome, Matt. I am pleased to read that you sing <(:-)

Mark McDonnell 09-12-2021 04:58 AM

Truly gorgeous and timeless poem, Matt. I remember it.

Sorry I'm late. But, y'know, timeless and all that so it doesn't matter does it?

:)
