Good News!

Hi,

I've just tried to find Jayne's Good News thread, but it seems to have vanished. I hope it's okay I'm starting a new one; happy for Staff to shift as they see fit.

Today's good news on Planet F. is that my poem 'Moppet's Meteorite' (on Met) has somehow found its way to the Natural History Museum, where it's found a lot of favour with Professor Sara Russell, and also with Prof. Russell's children. Hooray!

Best wishes,
Fliss

John Isbell 09-03-2021 07:57 AM

Congratulations, Fliss and Coo! Good to see our work entering the real world!

My good news: my MS. is moving forward with Cambridge and today, we’re off to an apple orchard!

Cheers,
John

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 08:29 AM

Thanks, John! Yes, good to get out there :-)

Really pleased for you re. the MS with CUP. And we hope you have a wonderful time in the apple orchard. My parents have a little orchard at the end of their garden and it's a delight. The guineas often enjoy playing there. When they come to visit, Moppet and her friends love it too.

Cheerie,
Fliss & Coo :>)

Way to go, Fliss

Hi Fliss,

My Good News 2 thread can be found here but I've moved this thread to The Accomplished Members board, which is the place to announce publishing or literary successes.

The Good News 2 thread is for more personal news about family etc.

Congratulations on your poem's success!

Jayne

I'm a little confused about the purppose of this thread, Fliss. Sara Russel appears to be a scientist. Has the Museum accepted the poem for publication in one of their joiurnals, or are you simply informing us that your mother sent the poem to a friend, and the friend liked it?

In other words, what Nemo - and others - said on the original thread.

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 12:16 PM

Michael, I posted the news in General Talk because I felt that was appropriate. However, as it turns out, the movement of the thread to TAM is apt because the poem has just been accepted for publication in a poetry journal.*

Jayne, thank you! A lot of happy people in Winchcombe at the moment, as you may imagine <(:-)

And thanks also to Cam and John Riley!

Best wishes,
Fliss

*Unfortunately I'm not permitted to name this journal on the 'sphere. Jayne, does that mean the thread should be deleted? No problem at all if so; I have other channels :-) x

Is the journal particularly secretive? Or is the sphere to blame?
Congratulations again!

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 12:44 PM

Oh, Cam. It has to do with a rule listed in Eratosphericals.

Jayne, thanks for locking the thread on Met. If you feel it best to delete it, or to delete this thread, I shall understand. 'Me too' :>)

But before that happens, I'd just like to thank everyone who supported the poem, which was first posted on D&A <(:-)

R. Nemo Hill 09-03-2021 12:47 PM

Ah, so it was a total of three threads dedicated to it.
Good lord.

Nemo

David Callin 09-03-2021 12:53 PM

Something - possibly my security settings - stops me getting into Eratosphericals. This is most frustrating. It appears to perform the same function for the main forum as the car park does for a rough Essex boozer.

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 01:01 PM

Erm, does anyone else get the impression Nemo doesn't like me very much? LOL.

David, lol. I assume you have the passcode? I don't know much about security settings; that might be for Staff to consider, I suppose.

Michael Cantor 09-03-2021 01:15 PM

Yeah, Nemo's problem is that he goes back to the old days when the Sphere focused on poetry and serious critiques on the poetry boards, not chatter-chatter-chatter.

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 01:35 PM

Lol, perhaps this thread should be locked too.

I don't mind. I'm a happy bunny, or a happy guinea, maybe. Due to my status as a disabled person, I'm used to people finding fault with me. One rises above. It's the only way.

Michael Cantor 09-03-2021 01:54 PM

My finding fault with you has nothing to do with your status as a disabled person - it has everything to do with not letting the Sphere deteriorate into a chat-room. Locking the thread is an excellent suggestion.

Roger Slater 09-03-2021 01:55 PM

Really? Those of us who are not disabled have no experience with people finding fault with us?

F.F. Teague 09-03-2021 02:15 PM

Michael, I actually tried hard not to chat on John Isbell's new thread earlier today. If you wish to complain about my conduct, Eratosphericals is the zone.

Roger, it's a spectrum. I've written about my experiences for The Mighty, as it happens, but I wouldn't think to post such things on the 'sphere.

Now, as per advice from someone I hold in high esteem, I'm not going to respond to any further comments on this thread that don't comprise congratulations. Anything else is off topic. Again, I don't mind if the thread is locked or even deleted. It's more than enough for me that the people I love are happy and proud of me <(:-)

Jayne Osborn 09-03-2021 06:35 PM

Hi everyone,
It's 1.15am for me and I've just got into bed, writing this on my phone...
I'm aware that several issues need to be addressed here, which are in the throes of being discussed, but in view of the different time zones between Alex, the Moderators and me, our chats tend to take a while.
We'll get back to you asap, as the present disruption isn't what anyone wants.

Jayne
