Anything else?

Allen Tice 07-01-2022 12:45 PM

I’ve said it elsewhere (in upper case), and I shall say it again here.

WE ARE ENTERING ANOTHER CYCLE OF POST-GLACIAL WARMING THAT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL. WE MUST NOT ADD TO THAT TEMPERATURE RISE.

Allen Tice 07-02-2022 01:10 PM

This is the evidence. Source: AAAS Science. They don’t do no firkin around no!

https://www.researchgate.net/publica...glacial_cycles

Eight glacial cycles. And we are slightly out of the most recent cold and into the heat. Figure 2 is the clearest. Don’t be scared by the wiggly lines. The present moment is at the left side. Each cycle takes a long time, like a hundred thousand years, give or take.

It’s very clear if you take the time to look Figure 2 over. Reading the text should give you a Stanford-Oxbridge eye-view of what is known for a fact. Dig in. We are a smart-ass bunch.

Look at the left side of Figure 2. It’s very evident that we are entering a long interglacial period. ALL THE MORE REASON TO CONTAIN MANMADE GLOBAL WARMING. The oil interests and so on would absolutely seize on this to say that they aren’t responsible. But humans have to do everything they can to keep things tolerably livable and keep the Earth cool, with icecaps if possible. Cosmic cycles are no excuse for greed.

Here are some further links to info on what has happened so far to earth.

I find the ‘flipping’ very interesting.

As of this morning access by the posted link through Researchgate is no longer available. The very clear item should still be available to AAAS members.

Don't worry, Allen. I'm sure SCOTUS* will announce a ruling that it's up to God to take care of global warming, and that in the meantime He wants the fossil-fuel industry to enjoy the riches he has bestowed on them. Problem solved.

* Stupid C***ts Of Totally Unbelievable Shittiness.

John Isbell 07-04-2022 02:56 AM

Ah! Little had I known the actual unpacking of the acronym SCOTUS. It's good to know!

Cheers,
John

Allen Tice 07-04-2022 06:49 PM

Brian, as your post earlier today presently stands, it doesn’t reflect well on you. Regardless of anyone’s opinion of certain very recent US Supreme Court decisions, if I for example were use similarly infantile language about parts of the governments or individuals in the governments of, say, France where you live, or the UK where you don’t, I would be rebuked, and rightly. I live in the US and am more directly affected and entitled, yet the wording in my opinions would take a different form. Please restore my longstanding respect.

John Isbell 07-04-2022 10:12 PM

I think the time for such language is when five unpleasant liars decide in their infinite wisdom to ignore fifty years of precedent and take 350 million others back to the Middle Ages - i.e., now. You'll note Roberts, who has a conscience, dissented.

Cheers,
John

Brian Allgar 07-05-2022 11:19 AM

Allen, it was a JOKE - admittedly, a rather acid one. But since you appear to have taken it seriously, allow me to explain my position.

I don’t believe that anyone, especially not a politician or a judge, is automatically entitled to my respect. On the contrary, I feel that some of them, including five members of the Supreme Court, are deserving of my utmost contempt, and I have no intention of moderating my language when referring to them. This applies equally (since you mentioned England and France) to such abominations as Boris Johnson and Marine le Pen, to name but two of many.

I am, however, sorry to have offended your unexpectedly delicate sensibilities.

Believe it or not, I am an American citizen. Buy my book ASAP, study pp 67-68.

Brian Allgar 07-05-2022 12:06 PM

Why on earth would I doubt that you're an American citizen? As for your thoughtful suggestion, I shall certainly give it my earnest consideration once I have found "'ASAP, by Allen Tice" on Amazon.

Allen Tice 07-05-2022 01:22 PM

The title is "Of Course," Brian.
Type "Allen Tice" in the book search line.
It has a floral arrangement painted by my lady wife on the cover, a blurb by Michael Hulse on the back, and you can "look inside" at the earlier pages. In the troubled USA it is $19. I don't know the price in France. I'm sorry I feel I had to bounce at you, but I do live here where it's happening, and nowhere else. I vote. I have a certain amount of experience living under a number of American administrations, and I don't have to approve of anything some have done. Nonetheless, it is still my country. Peace.

Brian Allgar 07-06-2022 01:26 AM

Oh, dear. It was another joke, Allen. I know perfectly well what 'asap' means, but I couldn't resist playing with the ambiguously expressed "Buy my book ASAP".

I don't wish to labour the point, but I don't think that the fact that you live and vote in America makes it off-limits to comment or criticism from non-Americans.

Peace to you, and I very much hope that democracy will someday be restored in your country.

I have zero complaints about the part of your post quoted above. It’s entirely fair play. It’s language and thrust are not dissimilar to what I could remark myself about what’s going on. To be very clear, it is wry, apt, and Allgar all at once.
