Invitation to My Book Launch in NYC and Also Thank You
FIRST: Etymologies is more or less out this week (April 5 give or take some distribution delays). If you are in the NYC area, I am having a very casual book launch on Thursday, April 13th, 6 PM, at the New York Public Library at 66 Leroy Street in the West Village (Hudson Park location). It's a perfect venue for a quasi-reference work. There will be books for sale and light refreshments.
You can RSVP here but you can also just show up: https://www.nypl.org/events/programs...ws-etymologies SECOND: A big thanks to Eratosphere and all the people I've met through it. I joined this site when I was 15 (under a different name) and for a long time it was my only connection to the poetry world. Twenty years later, I have a book. One that continually surprises me (the biggest surprise being that I wrote it, given how different it is from all that came before). And one that I wish a few people (Whitworth, Murphy, Tice) could have read. (If a mod knows why I can't embed images, please help me!) |
Kudos! Wish I could be there.

I am rather far from New York, but I am very excited to receive the copy I ordered!

Damn, I will be in the city two days later.

My copy of Etymologies just arrived, cannot wait to read it!

I got my copy yesterday and although I haven't read it all--it's to be savored, not gobbled--what I have read uses imagination in a way that's almost shocking. I don't think I've seen this sort of creative wildness in any other poetry written today. I look forward to reading it all.

Congratulations, Walter!
Both Amazon and Edelweiss show a May 6th publication date, so you might want to ask your publisher to move it up. It doesn't matter for most purposes, but on Amazon (for example) people are not permitted to post reviews and give you stars, etc., until the pub date, and it looks like there are many people ready to do so as soon as they can. In the meantime, I would encourage people to drop a quick review (just give it a 10) on Edelweiss. |
Rose, John, Roger, thank you very much.
At the last moment, University Chicago Press (my distributor) changed the release date because they expected shipping delays, which ultimately seem not to have manifested. I guess it's better to push it back then to have the book unavailable after the release date. Since it's only a few weeks I havent made much of a fuss, but I didn't know that about Amazon. Anyone who has a Goodreads can rate it there now. (Mysteriously, it received a rating back in January from someone I don't know and whose only other poetry ratings are for Rupi Kaur and Amanda Gorman.) |
Not to be like a sorority girl who celebrates her birthday all month (tho maybe I am that girl!), but Etymologies is now officially officially out, which means you can rate it here.
An interview with me discussing the book should be out later this month in the very fun Fran Magazine. Anyone interested in reviewing should send me a DM. |
It's out of stock at Amazon UK, which I hope is a good sign. Meanwhile, I've ordered a copy from a less Bezos-tinged purveyor of books, and I'm looking forward to it arriving next week.

Thank you, Matt!
This morning I received an amazing note from someone who is currently climbing Mt Everest (he is not there yet, but still hiking to the base) and brought my book with him. I'm not sure if I should respond with a request for a picture or just let the thing happen. Oh the places you'll go.... |
