Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-25-2003 12:50 PM

The photo below needs a subject, placed in the lower left hand third of the image (imo).

Your mission, should you decide to accept, is to place something in the water, making it look as if it were there when the photo was taken. Neatness counts, as does originality and anything else I think should count. *grin*

You may modify the original as you see fit.

Good luck.

Jerry

OK Jerry, you asked for it!

So I bent the rules a little. http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

Please see below for the edited version, thanks.

Ummmmm.....

Jerry.....

You SAID our challenge is to place something "in" the water... Your own example shows a bird "over" the water.

Clarify the rules, sir.

And what's the prize?

(robt)

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-26-2003 05:15 AM

Robt

You are correct - I violated my own rules. 'In' the water, if you please.

As for a prize (other than the knowledge of a job well done) - I'll think of something - perhaps a gift certificate for lunch at some chain restaraunt? (I can buy them here and send tot he winner).

BTW, Robt, I've tried contacting you by email and yahoo with no apparent luck. Hope your get-together with Michael went well.

p.s. It's a Klingon Bird-of-Prey

Sharon Passmore 09-26-2003 09:00 AM

Hi - just wanted to make it clear that it's Jerry issuing the challenge and offering the prize (I like cash Jerry) not Eratosphere.

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 09:19 AM

Jerry:

The fault's all mine, I am a million miles behind of everything. Visit went exceedingly well.

As to your challenge, the real problem here is we're looking straight DOWN on that ihnlet, so it's going to have to be an image that's also seen from above, and those ain't easy to find....

(robt)

Michael Cantor 09-26-2003 09:59 AM

Doesn't anybody have a good shot of Nessie? This seems to be a perfect Photoshop opportunity to create legend as well as an image.

And there's also an opportunity for a new contest. Name the Location! Looks vaguely Adriatic to me, but knowing a bit about Jerry's travels I'd guess Maine or Norway.

Could easily be on the Great lakes, Michael. Still full? I've finally finished the leftovers. Send more picklees, please...

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 11:42 AM

Alrighty, here it comes folks...

Inky -

Nice job! Where's Excalibur? *grin*

Robt -

Did I start something with an alien spaceship? I wasn't sure if my messages were getting blocked by this infernal firewall, or if the server was going funky again. I have to turn off the security system just to post here.

Sharon -

Thanks for the footnote. It didn't occur to me the offer might be misconstrued. Where's your attempt?

Sorry, Sharon. Gift certificate only. I want to make sure some of you depressed artists don't spend it on booze *grin*.

How about $30 gift certificate, deadline October 3rd, members vote on an open thread? Anyone can update their submission until the deadline.

Sharon - I didn't think of it, as this came along as a casual idea, but will you check with Alex and make sure this is OK with him before we finalize it. I don't want to overstep any boundaries.

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 01:19 PM

Jerry,

There are precedents. This isn't the first such "prize" offered.

Sharon, that's hysterical!

LOL

Now I am INTO this. I think I'll try another...

(robt)

Sharon Passmore 09-26-2003 01:20 PM

I'll check, Jerry. If it's ok and all - do you mind me moving this over to the funexcise forum?

inkwellpoetess 09-26-2003 01:35 PM

Can we have more than one entry?

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-26-2003 04:06 PM

Sharon

Move away.

Inky

I don't mind more than one entry. If the decision's going to be by popular vote, however, you may be competing with yourself. Perhaps post several before the deadline, then leave up the one you think has the best chance of winning?

Your call.

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-26-2003 05:30 PM

Robert

Between you and Michael, you should be able to locate the place this photo was taken.

Sharon Passmore 09-26-2003 06:18 PM

Hold on - here we go.

RMirandaW 09-26-2003 06:27 PM

Sharon,
I love your Gulliver! You get my vote!
rmw

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 08:39 PM

WOO HOO!

Art goes mainstream in Erato!

Sharon, change the TOPIC to "psst! Wanna see some pics, meestir?" and we'll get some traffic....

(robt)

Sharon Passmore 09-26-2003 10:12 PM

Robt, art has been in this forum before, check it out: http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/ubbhtm...ML/000026.html

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 10:17 PM

Yer right, I remember now... WhatEVER... sniffle.

3 cheers anyway!

(robt)

Robt_Ward 09-26-2003 10:23 PM

Sharon, looking at your Gulliver there seems to be a very awkward kiss between his neck and the stones. Maybe resize him or move him around to fix it? Or recolor the stone...

Meanwhile, in keeping with erato's high standards, now that you've plopped gully in the drink, why not perk up the colors and make a sky and horizon? (cf. my version)

I can throw the photoshop file at you if you want the masks, save some time.

Same offer to everyone btw:

if you want this original with selections made and saved, so as to reduce the amount of grunt-work you have to do, send me a PM with an email addy and I'll pop it off. Rhotoshop 6 or above only.

(robt)

Sharon Passmore 09-27-2003 01:28 PM

Why, thank you Robt. That's amazingly generous considering what a sound spanking I'm about to give you! Mwahahaha

inkwellpoetess 09-28-2003 06:25 AM

Here is the newer version with a very special thanks to Robt for his most generous help, I did it Robt! http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Bravo, Inky! "No task so daunting...."

(robt)

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-28-2003 10:08 AM

Very nice Lilliputian piece, Sharon. I was wondering if you could make the photographic background match the appearance of Gulliver. Use of a half-tone filter, or somesuch?

Nice combo, Terri. Do I see a multi-media forum emerging here? Add a little sound, some animation... *grin*

I wonder if the forum would support would support mpeg or streaming audio?

[This message has been edited by Jerry Glenn Hartwig (edited September 28, 2003).]

inkwellpoetess 09-28-2003 02:05 PM

Jerry,

You must be reading my mind...I was thinking, as I was posting the newer version, that it would be neat if the water were flowing and a Funeral Dirge was playing in the background. Btw, You're Statue of Liberty is my favorite so far. Robt and Sharon, your choices are great too!

Best,
Terri

Susan Vaughan 09-29-2003 02:17 AM

Lot of fun! Jerry, wonder if you would want to consider extending the deadline as Oct. 3 is sneaking up on us right quick. (not strictly on my behalf though as I may not have the time and skills to do this anyway). Another suggestion, I'm just bursting with them today, a chain restaurant thing sounds good and just had another idea -- a gift card to someplace like Borders or Barnes & Noble? (or maybe Amazon.com?)
Enjoying,
Susan

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 09-29-2003 10:23 AM

Any objections to extending the competition to October 20th? Anyone?

Sharon Passmore 09-29-2003 10:39 AM

Not a problem with me.

Robt_Ward 09-29-2003 05:20 PM

How about announce winners Oct 23rd, my birthday?

(anything to sway the judges)

(robt)

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 10-05-2003 03:36 PM

No more activity Or is everyone waiting until the 20th?

All sibmissions end at midnight of the 2oth, board time. I'll put up a general announcement for anyone who wants to vote. Once. *grin*

Sharon Passmore 10-05-2003 06:45 PM

I'm working on an entry but I'm in the middle of moving, too.

Jerry Glenn Hartwig 10-21-2003 01:38 PM

So we have three Photoshop entries. Mine's not in the running.

To vote, leave a message on this thread identifying your favorite image. Don't forget, the winner gets a free lunch (and who said there is no such thing as one of those?)

Contestants may vote for themselves. One vote per member. Any ties will be decided by a flip of the coin (you'll just have to trust me on that one *grin*)

Voting will end on midnight, 10-23-03 (Spherian time).

Good luck to the entrants.

Jerry

Michael Cantor 10-21-2003 01:58 PM

I vote for Robert Ward. (Since this is presently the only vote cast, CNN has projected Robert as the winner. Congratulations, Robert!)

inkwellpoetess 10-21-2003 02:12 PM

Sharon,

Maybe you can edit this thread so all the entries are at the top or together, for comparison?

Susan Vaughan 10-23-2003 02:30 PM

Hard to compare these, all clever -- think I'll cast my vote for Inky's mournful lady as particularly appropos to the setting given in the challenge. Enjoyed all.

Chris Childers 10-23-2003 05:24 PM

I like Gulliver. My vote to Sharon.

Chris
