Avatar Review
The new issue of Avatar Review is out. I am delighted and honored to have a poem in it, Abandoned, and, as it happens, fellow Spherian Terese Coe is there too with a fine poem, Partially Blind. (Click on titles for a direct link to the poem.) This is one that availed of being workshopped on the sphere some time ago. Thanks for your help,

Thanks for letting us know, Erik! I love your heroic couplets.

Erik - I enjoyed “Abandoned” very much. I concur with Aaron about the heroic couplets and love the simile of the turtle and metaphor of the wire in the last line, the N’s compassion for the brood of quail, and the progression of the poem as a whole.

Thanks, Aaron! That means loads to me coming from you.
Best Sidenote: Mine is the only metrical poem in this, though there has been more in past issues. |
Martin, I appreciate your kind words. So glad it floated your boat. It is good to hear.

I really like this Erik. Great couplets. Love the image of fixing the bending orchard limbs and what that seems to entail, the abandoned quail, the turtle simile and the bleak image at the close. He will go on, and the bleakness of his onward-going is shown in series of vivid images without being overstated. And the move to winter leaves open a hint of a possible of an eventual spring-time to follow. I think this is my favourite poem of yours -- of those that I've read at least.

Very nice! I enjoyed this a good deal as well. Cheers, John |
I enjoyed the heroic couplets too, Eric, and what a strong closing image! Nice work!

Matt,
Many thanks indeed for the kind words! Glad that those elements worked for you, not least that the hint of spring in the winter imagery came through. Cheers |
John,
Thank you. It is nice of you to say, and I am glad for it. Best |
