First Things
Mike Juster is the new poetry editor at First Things, taking over from Paul Lake.

I've always enjoyed First Things' poetry,
and this should continue the fine tradition, and maybe shake things a little too. |
Yes indeed.
He's one of the earliest members of Eratosphere. Here's an example of his work: Note From Echo by AM Juster Narcissus, I no longer haunt the canyons and the crypts. I thrive and multiply; uncounted daughters are my new companions. We are the voicemail's ponderous reply to the computers making random calls. We are the Muzak in the empty malls, the laughtrack on the reruns late at night, the distant siren's chilling lullaby, the steady chirp of things that simplify their scheduled lives. You know I could recite more, but you never cared for my recitals. I do not miss you, do not need you here— I can repeat the words of your disciples telling lovers what they need to hear. |
Thanks for the news, David. Mike should be terrific in this job.

I don't really know First Things, and I don't know Mike, but I offer my congratulations to him.
I like what John S. said about shaking things up: like some of Susan's translations of Rilke. Congratulations, Mike. |
I cannot think of a more appropriate editorial heir. Bravo, to both the magazine, and to Mike.
It was wonderful to see senior editor, Matthew Schmitz, tweet the other day, "We're lucky to have you." That is class. J |
Apologies for my delaying in thanking all of you--computer problems again.
