What's Yours?

Last night, to cheer myself up because I'd received some sad news, I listened to my absolutely favourite CD:
The Travelling Wilburys Vol 1.

Here's the last track:

I'm sure we all love music but this particular CD by "Supergroup" Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison never fails to put a big smile on my face, in spite of not-so-happy circumstances prevailing sometimes :D

Lovely Jayne. Can't beat a bit of the Wilburys. The Mount Rushmore of Country Rock! :)

Here's a cover of a Traveling Wilburys song by Jenny Lewis, a singer I really like.

And another of hers with a great rhinestone country pastiche video.

Sorry to hear you had some sad news.

And not particularly cheerful, but here's a cover that I really like. The songwriter was 16 or 17 when she wrote it, but it's being brilliantly covered by a grey eminence of 30.

You can listen here (playlist of the full album, starting with the first song).

Love a bit of Can, Aaron, but it says "video unavailable". Maybe that's just in the UK. But that means Jayne will be deprived of some great experimental early 70s Krautrock to cheer her up! ;)

I love this. Short and palatable for those who have only just opened the Can.

I can't figure out if this one will cheer you up or make you more depressed. But the video of this song is gorgeous. It actually cheeers you up by making you cry a bit.

Jayne, that’s a fine track in a bunch of ways.

Probably a UK thing. Here's a fave song from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKpCKBfazX8

Jayne, “At The End Of The Line” always stops me dead in my tracks. It’s uplifting in the most home-spun down-to-earth kind of way. I want it to go on and on. It’s so tightly woven lyrically and musically. There are so many things about that song and about that group of musicians that makes them (the songs and the artists) enduring.
I noticed the empty chair for Roy Orbison. I’ve seen the video many times before but don’t remember him not being there. It also makes me think of the two other chairs now empty... It cheered me with some left over : ) Thanks.

In certain circumstances, my unlikely cup of tea for cheering is Leonard Cohen. Yes, he can be reverential... But it is in his nature to be a strange brew of what’s holy, physically and spiritually. Here is one of those lesser known Cohen “uplifts” delivered downbeat, performed live in London at what was arguably his finest live performance of his life.
