Poem in Avery Shorts

I have a poem today in Avery Shorts published out of Columbia University’s Books on Architecture and the City. It is not a poetry journal but a hybrid chain-letter/zine for short-form architectural writing sent to architects and urban planners.

The poem was longlisted in the UK National Poetry Competition, which is apparently an accomplishment although it did not feel like one, but has not before now been published.

Anyway, thanks to those who offered tweaks when it was on the boards.

Clever and witty, Walter. Congratulations.

Ah, I remember it well! I think I'd not long been on the sphere and remember loving it and it sending me happily a-googling.

Why didn't it feel like an accomplishment Walter?

Congratulations, Walter! I am keen on this piece and exceptionally the concluding stanza. Cheers.

Congrats, Walter!

Thanks, everyone!

Mark, I guess being a name among many names did not excite me. And whatever cultural thrust the competition has in the UK is lessened in the US.

Avery Shorts is neat and anyone interested in architecture and design can sign up here.

Walter, this is fantastic. Another example of your brilliance.

I agree, Andrew. Walter is brilliant.

He is also beautifully designed and urbanely planned.

Hah! Very funny.

These and this are a hoot and a half. I didn't even realize they were limericks (limeristic? limericky?) until I got half way into the second. Nantucket will never be the same.
