A Preposterous POTUS

A Preposterous POTUS

After E. A. Robinson, “Aaron Stark”

A large material man, his outlook stark,
Well-tailored, loud and coarse in every pose,
This artful dealer with a dealer’s nose
Has eyes devouring dollars like a shark.
Through well-capped teeth he snidely makes his mark,
Spews racist hatred at arena shows
And feeds his base crude lines that trigger blows,
A fevered furor driving each remark.

Elated that his mobs give him renown,
As alt-fact failures let the US down,
This empty vessel with his fawning staffs,
Egged on by raucous, feckless right-wing cheers,
Sees that his antics cause the country tears,
So days he has his way the POTUS laughs.

Nicely done. Are you sending it to the NY Times Trump contest?

John Isbell 09-17-2017 11:48 PM

What Edmund said.

Nicely done. There has been an avalanche of Trumpoetry... (I wonder if he has ever written a poem, Trump? I wonder whether he has a favorite one, Trump? I wonder if he possesses even one slim volume of poetry, Trump?)

Here are two poems Barack Obama wrote while in college:

Gentlemen, thanks for the encouraging words! I will join the contest.

I heard that DT memorized “Little Miss Muffet” (loves those muffs), but poetry isn’t otherwise part of his reading, which mostly includes (according to an ex-wife) his bedside volume of Adolph’s speeches.

As for Obama’s poems, well, I’ve seen much worse: my own early stabs at free verse.

Super cool!

Only because we don't have a thread, I figured I'd share in this thread what I've sent in (though one is a PDF that exceeds the maximum allowed size). They're visual poems blacked out from Trump's Art of the Deal. I feel like nothing quite defines him like secrecy and erasure, so it the project that they're drawn from has kept me busy and made a lot of sense. They look a little crooked here, but not in the documents I sent.

Very nice concept Andrew. It's all there hiding somewhere in The Art of The Deal. I'm sure of it.

Andrew,

Sorry, but it's nearly 1am here in the UK, and past my bedtime; those thumbnails are really messing with my head!
(Any chance of you posting something more coherent for us to see??)

Jayne

Hi Jayne,

They should become large when you click on them. They do for me. If not, let me know.

They biggen up yugely for me, too.
