David Mason on Neruda
Online at the Hudson Review, Davey's fascinating essay on Neruda.
https://hudsonreview.com/2018/07/ner.../#.W2DKGy2B1E4 Very much worth reading! |
"Genius is no proof of wisdom." True, and memorably phrased.
Well-worth my time, Cally, thanks, and congratulations to both Dave and the journal. Jenn |
G'day, All!
I'm bumping this thread because Davey's essay on Neruda appears on 3 Quarks Daily today. They try to pick a representative best of articles/essays/critiques appearing across the media and all manner of journals. When I wrote that this essay is worth reading, I wasn't blowing smoke!! haha! It really really is a great essay on Neruda, and a great piece of writing. So if you haven't already, give it a go when you have a quiet half hour or so . . . And while I'm here, Davey is giving a public lecture on 17 September at Melbourne University titled 'Turning to Voice: Poetry and the Public'. If there are any denizens of Melbourne lurking here, do come! https://events.unimelb.edu.au/events...and-the-public The former director of the Melbourne Writers Festival will be doing a podcast interview with Davey before the main event, so I hope to be able to share that with you here at a later date. Thanks! Cally |
Worth reading, indeed. Thank you for sharing the link to Neruda’s Voice, Cally.
Cheers, Erik |
Yup, thank you, Cally. That seems a fairly apt overview of Neruda the man and the artist. Genius is no proof of wisdom: perhaps the best line in the piece.
Cheers, John |
