Angst can be funny

Some innocuous humor about our (US) venomous political landscape (come on somebody laugh) https://youtu.be/a1JirBe_fUM x |
I could only get the last one, Jim (country, or whatever), and I don't think it was funny enough. I mean, given the times, you need to be crazy funny. And nasty at the same time. I like Cobert a lot, my mother loves him. God bless her. I haven't watched Maher in a while (couple of months), but that's closer. No bullshit. Real discussion, appropriate alarm. And sometimes really funny.

"The bad guy in a porn film." That's funny.
(Was an SNL moment that the right feigned some outrage about... after everything that's been going on the past 2 years. Haven't watched the show in years, but was on the news.) |
Yes, well, I wasn't looking for cutting edge funny. Just something -- anything -- to alleviate the tension leading up to the election. I don't watch much of anything but this clips came up on social media and I could relate to them, smile at them. A sad clown kind of smile, but a smile nonetheless.
Bill Maher's discussion panels are good, but tend to be all about confrontation and debate vs. satire. (Though Maher's New Rules segment is excellent.) |
Yeah, I felt a little bad about that post, Jim. I'm being way picky. I think Maher's statement after 9/11, what got him fired, is exactly the dose of reality we need now. You know, the truth.

James: I think Maher's statement after 9/11, what got him fired, is exactly the dose of reality we need now. You know, the truth. I think you've got something there. (The only problem is that Maher was excoriated for telling the truth.) Mueller. Mueller will tell the truth. (If indeed he finds it. Trump is very good at being very bad.) x |
Hi Jim,
I chuckled at the links you gave us, even though (heaven knows) I try hard to keep out of British politics, let alone US ones! But seriously, over here we do sympathise (even if we don't spell it with a 'z') with your situation - and your attempt to cheer people up with a bit of humour (even though we spell it with an extra 'u', for some reason) is to be applauded. Thanks for making us laugh, at least a little. :) Jayne |
Does that mean that all American humour is non-U?
