Beautiful Cyn! And congratulations!

Yes. Congrats--is this a painting that you made?

yes this is my painting that I did for one of the poems in the book but I thought it might make good cover art. I am considering it.

Rick Mullin 03-27-2014 01:59 PM

It's really good. A lot of palette knife work, it seems. I like the details in the crows' eyes given the atmospheric rest of the painting.

Are you making several paintings for poems in the book? This would certainly make for a strong cover.

Rick

Very nice, multi-talented one.

Cyn Neely 03-27-2014 03:47 PM

Thanks Janice, Rick and Katherine.

I am not having paintings in the book - at least not in this one - but I am doing paintings that respond to some of my poems for another limited edition type art book - fewer poems, the ability for color plates, etc - may have to write a grant to try to do it.

In the meantime I am painting these paintings to have in an exhibit in conjunction with a reading I will give late fall early winter at the local college.

An art association I participate in just had an exhibition titled, On Silvered Wings. The theme was birds and it was highly successful. They are making a $500.00 donation to a wild bird rehabilitation program with the proceeds from the exhibition.

Very nice work, Cyn. Could you post some of the poems your paintings are illustrating????

Cyn Neely 03-29-2014 10:45 AM

thanks sericmarr

I should be clear, the paintings aren't so much illustrative as perhaps a reverse ekphrastic. Or simply in conversation with the poems in tone, mood or subject. Some may have maybe one visual detail that is in the poem. The paintings, like the poems, should stand alone.

I won't post poems here on this board for art, and many have already been workshopped on the boards here. But thanks for asking.

Lovely! I love the contrasts - hard and soft - dark and light, and the depth. I love how the background seems in a whirl, making me, as the viewer, feel as though I am flying too.
