“Poets in New York/Poetas en Nueva York,” a celebration of Spanish-American poetry in English and Spanish by poets and translators living in the New York City area.

Inspired by Lorca's Poet in New York (Poeta en Nueva York) as well as the work of Jorge Luis Borges, this reading will feature poetry from countries including Argentina, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Spain. Sponsored by Red Harlem Readers, the event will include performances by Mariela Dreyfus (with Gabriel Amor), Edgar Smith, Marisol Espaillat, Gary Racz, Terese Coe, Daniel Shapiro, Anne Whitehouse, and David M. Katz.

Terese,

How I would love to attend this event! I studied Lorca at McGill, and a full half-semester was dedicated to Poeta en Nueva York. Who could ever forget the darkness, despair and anguish of "Vuelta de paseo", "Ciudad sin sueño - Nocturno del Brooklyn Bridge", or "Nueva York -- Oficina y denuncia." And the final ray of hope of "Son de negros en Cuba"!

Please come back and let us know how it went!

Cathy

Dan is an old friend of mine. I recently did some Rubén Darío translations for Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas, the magazine he edits.
