review of Mike Juster in LARB

I was browsing the Los Angeles Review of Books website and came across a fine review of Mike Juster's translation of Milton's Latin elegies. Here's the link. Always nice to see good folks getting well deserved attention! Congrats, Mike!

Thanks, Nausheen.

The new book has gotten excellent reviews in the US, but we haven't been able to generate any reviews in the UK at all. Given the importance of Milton to British literature (& political thought), that lack of interest is disappointing.

It was almost the same story with Aldhelm's Riddles, which was reviewed in the UK only by the Oxonian Review.

I remember a prominent UK Civil War scholar who worked for instance on the Levellers. He might want to review this contribution to an overview of Milton’s thought.

Cheers,
John

Sorry, that was Christopher Hill At Balliol. I see he died in 2003. How out of date am I. I might though look to a historian.
Milton was at Christ’s. If you want a mass-market UK review, you might try The Independent, which began life in the 1980s as a Cambridge English faculty project.

Congratulations, Michael! "Passing bands of girls" is such a lovely metaphor for stars, and evocative of more as well. Hope you will find a UK reviewer with a knowledge of Latin very soon!
