September Spherians in LUPO's Autumn '18 Issue

Autumn inches in after a torrid summer and here to take the sting out of the season ahead comes Issue 43 of LUPO, with Spherians Brian Allgar, Melissa Balmain, Jerome Betts, Catherine Chandler, Maryann Corbett, Martin Elster, David Galef, Max Goodman , Midge Goldberg and Martin Parker, plus new members Damian Balassone, Janice Canerdy, Barbara Lydecker Crane and Bruce McGuffin.

Their topics include bar talk, dogs, ducks, dress sizes, insomnia, North v. South, plants ( house and invasive,) malignant marsupials, progeny, performance poetry, personal quirks, prostration, reticent giraffes, and tennis elbow.

Not to mention artichokes, bats, cats, cows, St Helena wirebirds and Slough among the many contributions from the unspherical, new and old.

Yes, this is a terrific issue. I'm still working my way through all the gems it contains.

Melissa Balmain 09-02-2018 09:59 PM

Ditto, Gail!

Jerome, congrats on putting it all together--I hope lots of stateside readers take a break from their barbecues tomorrow to read it. Suggested Labor Day slogan: "LUPO: more fun than a cheeseburger, and zero calories!"

I've enjoyed reading around in the issue. Melissa Balmain's poem had me laughing out loud.

Thanks, Susan! Almost makes me glad about the tennis elbow...

Jerome Betts 09-05-2018 03:08 AM

Many thanks Gail, Susan and Melissa (plus the contributor cast of thousands - well, nearly fifty anyway). Glad you've enjoyed the issue, though I know to my own cost that tennis-elbow is no joke.

Melissa Balmain 09-05-2018 09:38 PM

Jerome, sorry to hear you're a fellow sufferer. But wait--could this be an opportunity? After all these years working on opposite sides of the pond, is it time for a ... joint venture?

Jerome Betts 09-06-2018 09:48 AM

Melissa! I didn't realise you harboured such . . . tendon feelings.

(Well, at least 'tennis elbow' sounds more dashing than 'washerwoman's elbow' which it was once apparently called.)

I appreciate the link to what is a good issue and one with many a Spherian at that! Congratulations, ye.

A fine issue! Congrats to all.
