Happy Fourth of July

Here is my Fourth of July tribute sonnet sequence:

Act I: P. B. Shelley's Ozymandias

Act II: Emma Lazarus' The New Colossus

Act III: Claude McKay's America

Interesting sequence -- thank you.

My husband, who still thinks the Revolution was a mistake, has
hung out his British flag. What can I say?

Happy 4th of July!

One of the most festive celebrations of the 4th of July takes place in Denmark, in REBILD in north Jutland. Danish expatriates living in the US flock to Rebild on the 4th of July to celebrate, to hear and make speeches. The Danish Queen is usually among the speakers, and American and Danish songs are sung.
Hans Christian Andersen's "In Denmark I was born, there is my home, there are my roots, from there my heart goes out. You Danish song, you are my mother's voice, so sweet and blessed you reach my heart........" makes all Danish expatriates cry, me included. But then they sing, "America, America...." and the music plays, and nostalgia for the US joins the Danish nostalgia.
