Love and Chocolate

Hi folks,

I'll be reading various rather uxorious love poems in the Edinburg, TX City Library (78539) this Thursday 8 February between 6-8 p.m., at an event called Love and Chocolate, if we have any South Texans in the neighborhood...

Cheers,
John

Wish I could be there. You can never be too uxorious.

Thank you Gail!

John

Hope it went well; as well as chocolate goes with love.
Romanticism gains strength when paired with poetry and chocolate. So there. ;)

Thanks Jim! The chocolate was delicious. :-)
One of my students showed up with some friends, that was nice! And a little girl was clapping as I sat down again.

Cheers,
John

The problem with applause is that I can never tell why people are clapping: for my being on stage or for my leaving the stage. I dare not ask, but the question humors me. Nevertheless, I am sure the little girl was not clapping for you to sit down.

In your uxorious readings, did you read Crashaw's "Wishes to his (supposed) mistresses"? Or Kilmer's "Blue Valentine"? The former I love for the wit and craft of Crashaw, and his humor; this latter poem I find to be exceptionally beautiful, and one of his best.

Congratulations on your reading,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

And thank you! Yes, clapping is an ambiguous thing. I enjoyed the Crashaw, in all its length, down to the ending - "Be ye my fictions; but her story." The Joyce Kilmer is new to me as well, but quite lovely. Thank you. Similarly, Elvis's "Blue Christmas" is my favorite Christmas song.

Cheers,
John
