Submissions open for the Winter 2010 Raintown Review

Well, they were open anyway (we read submissions year-round), so this is more your periodic reminder that we're reading poetry, looking for books to review, etc. Procedures for submission, a rough guide to our preferences, etc. can be found here:

You might also look at the sample poems on the Raintown web page for a sense of what we like.

Keep in mind, too, that we get way, way more good sonnets than we can ever possibly use, so go easy on the fourteen-liners, okay?

Bump! A whole lotta bump.

Didn't you say not long ago that a lot of RR poems were solicited? What percentage is left for the slush pile people?

If you don't mind me asking?

Quincy Lehr 03-08-2010 12:08 AM

There were forty-two poets in the last issue. Seven of the submissions were personally solicited (one being a long poem I challenged Rose Kelleher to write, and three by authors outside the U.S. who might not have known about the Raintown had I not asked for work; two others were known by Anna from The Barefoot Muse, and one was a guy I know from the open mike circuit here in New York whose work I thought would dovetail nicely with what we're trying to do). So five out of six poets came to us via the slush. Thus far, the Winter issue is 100% slush pile.

We solicit to increase the journal's reach submission-wise (particularly internationally), or when we see something we particularly like, etc. And being asked to submit does not guarantee acceptance. We've rejected solicited submissions before.

That put your mind at ease?

Quincy

Yes, it does and perhaps not only mine. Thank you for the PMs.
