Submit: Poems about Murder
|
Just thought I'd let you all know that I emailed a query to them (my murder poem was too long, I suspected, so I checked first, and it was).
I had a very nice response but it ended with: we are near the end of our submissions period and have amassed almost all the poems we will use for the collection. |
I'm pleased to say that they sneaked in one of mine (only 4 lines) at the last minute.
Thanks for the heads-up, Sam. |
And I too am in the book. The Sphere strikes again!
|
Am thrilled to say they just took my villanelle, "You know Who You Are" based on notes left by the Virginia Tech mass murderer so you can add another Sphere entry to the list.

Well done, Mary. We are everywhere, like fleas.

My God, you people are fast - congratulations!

Wel, I have to say they didn't take the poem I sent. They said they already had a couple of mine and were proceeding through Faber & Faber. I said, don't proceed through them. They're my poems not theirs. Proceed through me. And they did.

Goodness, John, how many murder poems have you written?
|
Quite a few, Roger. And I once wrote a detective novel where the victim was a poet. Unpublished alas, though Holly has read it and quite liked it. We English LOVE a good murder, as George Orwell pointed out.
Three of my favourite writers are Arthur Conan Doyle, G.K. Chesterton and Dorothey L. Sayers. |
