From Poem to Music--Whittier Writers Festival
Hey Folks,
For those in the Los Angeles area, I'm pleased to announce the launch of the first CD of songs, Tokyo Burning, an album based on my book of poems, Tongue of War: From Pearl Harbor to Nagasaki. The singer-songwriters who converted the poems into songs will be performing at the Shannon Center at my home college, Whittier College, on Sept. 18th (see link below), along with two other poetry to music projects, Sholeh Wolpe performing with Iranian singer Mamak Khadem, and legendary punk/blues musician John Doe performing with poet David Daniel. http://www.shannoncenter.org/Whittie...sFestival.html In addition to the three evening concerts, the singers and poets will participate in a panel at 3 p.m. on the process of moving from poem to song. Some live rough YouTube performances of songs from Tokyo Burning can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QZl5kueik4 The album itself will be more widely available in October, so look for it on Amazon and CD Baby, or on the BKMK Press website (as the CD will also be available bound in with the book). |
Another feather in your cap of versatility. Do remind us again when the album comes out.

Hi Janice,
Oh, don't worry--you won't be able to shut me up! Be well, T |
I love seeing this kind of collaboration between artists. I've made a note to order it when it comes out, but like Janice, I hope you remind us. Their voices and music, your words...on YouTube.... is beautiful to hear, gives an idea of how fine the CD will be...you picked a fine group to work with, I think. Hope the CD/book combo does well.

Thank you, Pat. I'm deeply excited about it!

Cogratulations, Tony! I look forward to hearing the whole CD - it sounds like these artists have taken your book to heart.
