Hugh's affecting and finely crafted poem 'Passage', published in the current Rialto, is set in a pub, but is in other respects altogether different from his 'Marked' in TDE. Congratulations!

Just received my copy of Rialto.
It's a worthy mag, but I find it hard work at times. The editor goes on at some length about Arts Council funding, but I wonder who if any of us is owed a living.
Hugh's poem is good, of course, but I've seen other poems on Erato by him that I prefer.

LOL David - and the print is so flipping SMALL, it's hard to imagine how we manage to read it at all! I'll go find it in Borders, I guess - I really should resubscribe.

The mag does have a good reputation - one of the best, especially with the way Poetry Review's gone. A very good place to have a poem.

Cheers folks-while you're blowing my trumpet, I should say that I've won one of the prizes in the Smith/Doorstep Poetry Award and as a result a sexy wee collection called 'After the Storm' is being launched on May 19th with spontaneous outbursts of joy, free drink and belly dancers. If you happen to be passing....?

And I'm courting immortality by having two poems included in the Edinburgh University Press' anthology of 'Twentieth Century Scottish Poetry'.

Rare, eh? Still poor as a church mouse, though. And Scotland's still rubbish at football.

Actually I prefer to be known by my gaelic name, which translates roughly in your tongue as 'He of the huge breeches and wit like a mountain stream in spate and vigour of a young donkey'.
