Kimberly Poitevin in Crime Poetry Weekly
I happened to come across 'Railway Sestina' by Kimberly Poitevin in The 5-2: Crime Poetry Weekly. Congrats, Kim! Horror and love all at once.
Best, Ed |
It's a great sestina, Kimberly. Congratulations...and I'm glad to find this intriguing venue.

Thanks Ed and Marybeth. I should also thank many here who gave me some great feedback and encouragement on an earlier draft (Janice and Elle especially). Editor Gerald So is very pleasant to work with, and I hope others might consider submitting here in the future. (Ed-- perhaps your triolet?) |
What a piece of work, Kimling!! Always a pleasure when your words appear!
And Agent Ed - you really are an agent, Ed! How you find out all these great places, and find us out when we get in them, is amazing. Thank you so much for making us aware of these things! Cally |
Oh, I am so happy to hear that this found a good home. Yippee. The fact is that it pops up in my mind now and then. Way to go, gal.

Nice work! I keep right on liking sestinas despite their bad rep, and this one moves in both senses. (And thanks, Ed, for your role as ace reporter.)

In any case, congrats, Kimberly! It's nice to know a sestina can find a home in such an unusual venue! Best, Bill |
It would be fun to claim that, like the Examiners, I am there, I am there, I am there; or that the fedora Cally gave me is imbued with psychic powers. Either one of those claims would be more impressive than saying that Crime Poetry Weekly was a site featured at random on Duotrope, and it's just dumb luck that I ran across Kim's sestina early this morning.
So, yes, Cally's fedora has gifted me with pyschic powers; or maybe it's the lucky card stuck in the hat band. You may as well give up and post an announcement yourself if you've been published in a snazzy new venue, like Kim has. The truth -- or beauty -- will out. My nose is not growing. Best, AE |
Kim, congratulations. I love this kind of sestina, a poem that addresses "the hard stuff," as I believe Siham calls it. And I love the way you tell the story and then ponder it.
Thanks so much, Ed, for posting it. Instinct, genius? Who knows. There's clearly more to human thought than pure reason--just came from the Free Inquiry thread! Charlotte |
