I imagine I shall indeed roast in hell, Michael: the image on the subscription website is a place-holder for the cover image, which is being digitised this morning at the correct dpi for that picky website. The cover is even more astoundingly astounding, though, so perhaps you'll let me live.

P.S. that placeholder photo is one I took in Wales. But please don't feel the need to congratulate us on our consummate professionalism.

And the photograph Michael Cantor liked so much is now available as a print for just £99 plus p+p of £15, plus VAT (something like 95% at the moment, I believe) plus £50 handling fee, plus 10% exchange rate commission. Yes, a fun poem! I also enjoyed seeing in print all the stories Quincy told me on his LA visit. Now I know they're true... But seriously, I was glad to see him shoot down the idea of a "poetry slump." There's so much going on now. The article on "women's poetry"--good, but I wanted more! Loved John Whitworth's poems, especially "God and a Packet of Crisps." Anna Evans' poem--lovely. Still reading.... Can't wait to read Gregory's long essay....

And congrats, Rory and colleagues. The magazine is looking great overall.

I'm glad you mentioned R.S. Gwynn's poem, David. It is bloody excellent, a real hoot - and so superbly done: it isn't enough to have a brilliant idea, you have to exploit it. I've shared that poem with some of my students and they think it's superb too. (I've also recently shared another poem from a New Walk: David Mason's 'The Dying Man', which was in issue 3. Is it appalling of me to wheel out my own magazine like this?)

While we're on Eratosphere members, Gregory Dowling's essay is one of the finest pieces of critical prose we've published. And I'd like to mention John Whitworth, who I came to rather late. I don't understand why he isn't more famous. He can be ferociously witty.

Quincy's a man with opinions and a certain way of putting them. We are and continue to be a forum for opinions, often strong ones, that pull in all directions - much like the poetry we publish. We're not a club. I hope that is part of our strength, even if it means perhaps no reader is going to find themselves liking EVERYTHING.

Adam: Gas Mark 6, fifteen minutes on either side. Wrap in bacon first, and garnish lavishly with black pepper and paprika. Tastier than Michael's recipe. Those Americans, eh?
