Another on Autumn Sky
|
I thought that was you, Ralph. But I wasn't quite sure--all these confusing nom de plumes. I read it, I liked it, I very nearly announced it, but I have posted wrongly before and chickened out.
But big congratulations. |
I especially like " sonic, acrobatic blur"!

Nice, Ralph. Congrats! The ovenbird, though inconspicuous, warbles lyrically, yet so loudly, I wonder what a stew of them sound like? Would the noise knock down all the trees in the forest or would it be like a cosmic symphony? By the way, I know you’re using poetic license in calling the singing bird a “she” to differentiate the bird from the narrator. I think that’s a clever approach.
I’m sure you know this one by Frost: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/173533 |
Janice, Jean and Martin, thanks for noticing! It’s an old one, work shopped way back when the holy trinity of critters was Sullivan-Murphy-Juster. I still bear the bruises.
Yes, I’m familiar with Frost’s “Ovenbird,” which I suspect is an echo of Thoreau’s discussions in his journals of the bird’s trickster behaviors and varied songs. Frost taught Thoreau for years. It seems the bird is a muse to both of them. |
Congrats, Ralph! I love your poem! Reminds me of a few important times I love being reminded of.
