Henning Mankell

Just to mention Henning Mankell died a few days ago. He was 67. For me the best crime writer since Elmore Leonard. Mankell lifted the crime genre into new areas of social observation and depth of character.

You are right. Wallander is best depicted on television IMO by the first swedish chap, the fat one. Kenneth Branagh is too nice by far.
