Light launches news-based light verse feature: open for submissions!

Exciting news: in addition to publishing two fat issues a year, Light is launching a Poem of the Week feature that'll let us publish funny, news-inspired poems--political or otherwise--much more often. The first weekly submission deadline is Friday, April 21 at noon Pacific time.

Up to three poems will be chosen from among each week's POTW submissions, to run the following Monday. All POTWs will be archived and searchable on the website, just like poems in our regular issues. And of course we'll promote them like crazy via social media.

Four more days till our first Poem of the Week submission period closes. ... Meanwhile, here are two topical poems by Tim Steele and Dan Campion to get you in the mood. (Yes, they were accepted before the new system kicked in.)

Melissa,

Tim's and Dan's are a delight! Looking forward to more.

Does this mean replies will be sent relatively soon, or do the poets see the Poem of the Week for the response, or visit Submittable?

Julie, thanks for the tweak!

Terese, we'll be making our first POTW selections this coming weekend, and posting them on 4/24. (Tim and Dan's poems were actually not part of the new system--both were submitted and accepted before it began.)

Thanks, Melissa!
