Manx Map Mayhem!
Hi Folks--
David Callin tipped me off to this cool project on the Isle of Man (http://www.culturevannin.im/poetry_m...l#poetry_map): an interactive map of the island, with "pins" linked to poems about those places. Now two poems of mine can be found there, along with several of David's. I post about it here for a couple of reasons: 1) So that you can be suitably impressed by the breathtaking majesty of the accomplishments of members Callin and Hunt; 2) Because some of you (Jayne?) might wish to search your cupboards for Manx-themed poems you might send off for this unorthodox "publication opportunity." (By the way, David lives on the island, and I have a family history riddled with Manxness...) 3) Because I think some of you might just appreciate this as a worthy civic project, combining technology, poetry, and ecological awareness. Best, --Simon |
Three excellent reasons! Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Simon.
Edit: I've been playing with it, it's wonderful. What a cool idea. I found your 'spaniels and dust' TT poem! |
What a lovely idea; thanks for letting us know about it, Simon.
My son and his wife moved to the Isle of Man with a young baby, then they had three more children who were all born on the island, but the family moved back here (they're only eleven miles away from me) two years ago. My daughter-in-law's parents still live in Ramsey, but that's the only connection I have now. I met David and his wife on one of my visits, but strangely I never wrote a poem on the island, so I have nothing to offer for this project. Congratulations to you and David though! Jayne |
Thank you for sharing, and congratulations, Hunt and Callin! That is a fun poem hunt indeed, no pun intended. I wish I could take the tour in real life, but since I am so far away, this is the next best thing.
Cheers, Erik |
Just to say that The Poetry Society has a similar project, called The Places of Poetry with a map of England and Wales that people can pin place-related poems to. It's running till 4th October.
