beginning and ending

Nothing so difficult as a beginning
In poesy, unless perhaps the end
Don Juan, Canto theDon Juan, Canto the Fourth

The beginning of my poem supplying an end for Don Juan is up at the Byron Society's website.

Excerpts are also forthcoming in Jerome's LUPO.

Max, I am loving this! Can't wait for the next installment.
Byron's doubtless snickering in his grave.

Roger Slater 05-24-2021 12:09 PM

That's great, Max. Have you already written the rest? If so, how long is the total poem?

Max Goodman 05-24-2021 06:59 PM

Thanks, Melissa and Bob!

The poem is complete, Bob (though maybe not finished--I keep tinkering), eight cantos (#s 17-24), not quite 700 stanzas all told (not including, of course, Byron's contribution).

I am honoured to say I've read the whole thing, and it's absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to see it in book form when Max has finished his tinkering.

It's SO clever, and funny, and will be a well-deserved success.

The poem is lucky to have benefitted from Jayne's invaluable help and that of a handful of other Spherians, most of whom are unfortunately no longer frequently at the site.
