Laura Riding

I admit I knew nothing about Laura Riding or her poetry before I read this article. Then I went looking for her poems and immediately wondered why she was not in the pantheon of important American poets of the 20th century. The downside is all the books I located were priced way out of my budget. I'll keep scrounging.

I'm glad you've found her, John.

My own interest in Laura Riding is rooted mainly in her relationship with Robert Graves, one of whose biographers, Miranda Seymour, wrote a terrific piece of fiction based on a period of time spent by Graves and Riding in America in 1939. It's called The Telling. That can be had for pennies and is an interesting speculation by a fine writer.
