possible scam using a poet's name

It's possible that a poet many of us love and respect has been hacked and her email contacts compromised. If you get an urgent request for money from a poet friend, be skeptical.

How sweet and thoughtful, Max. Yes, I got it too, and as someone who regularly gets mail from this lady, I can tell you it is nothing like what she normally sends me. It sounds nothing like her.

Mine asked if I order from Amazon, without even addressing me by name -- extremely fishy. Be wary. I'm about to write to her other email account, and confirm.

By the way, mine was actually flagged with this warning:

For example, she always, always closes by telling me "Love."

This one ends "Thanks."

I got the same message, asking if I ordered from Amazon. I was puzzled but replied yes. It was followed by a request that I make a purchase for her niece, since her own card was being rejected. The second message was flagged a junk. I discarded it, knowing that the poet would never ask anything of the sort. There are many scams out now, so we all need to be wary.

This is how the world ends, Max.

People can be so evil. To me it is particularly despicable when these crooks prey on our beloved elders, who ought to be revered as nearly sacred. We need to protect them.

As I said, I have written to her other email account about this matter. She sent me Christmas greetings only a few days ago.

Her people have confirmed to me that in fact, she has been hacked. They also assure me that she herself is fine, while her family is looking into it.

Certainly do not give credence to creepy, typo-riddled, heart- and purse-string-pulling nonsense about Amazon purchases, needy nieces, etc., etc...
