Lot and His Daughters
A couple of years ago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art put on display a large painting by Rubens of Lot and His Daughters that I love. More recently, and temporarily, the museum has put on display a superb drawing of the same motif by Gabriel de Saint-Aubin. Meanwhile, in the Corot gallery (does your museum have a gallery of nothing but Corot...?) there are two versions of the The Burning of Sodom, one being a study for the big picture. As is often the case, I prefer the preliminary smaller painting. As for the two Lot and His Daughters, I don't know which I prefer.

Based on the non-response to this, apparently there's not a lot to say about it : ) When you first posted this I did spend some time with it because the story of Lot and his daughters was skipped over by the nuns who taught me. They seemed to care more about the squelching of Lot's wife's curiosity. I fell in love with her at first sight. . |
