In the 1950's, the Ford Motor Company asked poet Marianne Moore, she of the dense lyricism and tricorn hat, to come up with names for a new model of automobile. According to William Logan in the current New Criterion, Moore offered the following possibilities:
Intelligent Whale the Arcenciel the Mongoose Civique the Pastelogram the Turcoting and (drum roll please) the Utopian Turtletop If you guessed that Ford eventually chose "Edsel" instead, you guessed right. So! Put on your tricorn thinking caps and name the product or products of your choice: breakfast cereal, gasoline, nail polish, scotch, whatever! |
Well, I'm currently building a car, using a 2002 LS6 Corvette engine, 6 speed transimission and a 1970 Volvo P1800E.
We're considering calling it The Volvette. Or the CorVolvo. It's the same model of car Simon Templar (Roger Moore) drove in the TV series 'The Saint'. Any other suggestions? [This message has been edited by Jerry Glenn Hartwig (edited February 06, 2004).] |
I was working a project where the time accounting software was really bad. It required you to acount for your time down to 5 minute intervals. We had to enter rest room breaks, trips to get cofee, and going out to smoke. By the end of the week it took and hour just to fil it in, as they would not accept 8 hour blocks of time. So I created a name for it that spread rather rapidly. I called it Adminastriva. Imagne my surprise when I heard the CEO use that term 6 weeks later to identify the same software.
As to the cars how about a volkswagon minibus converted to a camper/RV. Call it a bed bug. [This message has been edited by JamesMichel (edited February 07, 2004).] |
Geez, Jerry, if it were for James Bond, I'd call it Love Muscle; for the Saint, dunno. Maybe Soulvette?
Happy driving, ------------------ Ralph |
