Keeping Google Out: Test Threads
Of my two test threads at The Deep End (“Winter Morning Walk" and "A Winter Morning Walk”), posted to check the new protection arrangements, the one that was not guarded by Alex’s blocking code, “Winter Walk”, has now been found by Google. It's also still finding my original, unprotected post from 2001, now in the archives. This suggests that any other changes Alex has introduced to keep the spiders out have not so far done the trick, but that the blocking code does perhaps work. Clive |
Clive, have you determined if the blocking code works to block subsequent replies? Perhaps you should post the same poem in reply to the post that is properly blocked, but do not add more code, and see if the new reply shows up in Google?

Good thought, Roger! I'll so shortly.

Interestingly, I now discover that, while searching Google with these terms – “upspearing verdure Watkins” – leads first of all to the unprotected thread, “Winter Walk”, there is a link among the results Google omits to show, but which can of course be brought up, to the current forums page – that is, the page listing all our forums.
I imagine someone more knowledgeable in these matters than myself may well be able to explain this effect and what it signifies (if anything) for the question at issue. Clive |
