The Higgs Weldon is more than a totally non-existent subatomic particle. It’s also a comedy website that arose from the Los Angeles stand-up scene.
The site features cartoons, one-liners, a little bit of light verse, and lots of prose comedy. They publish some talented, engaging writers, and they serve up funny in quite a variety of flavors -- pure nonsense, zingy satire, cerebral wit, mild raunchiness, etc.
A lot of poems that would be right for
Light or
Lighten Up Online probably wouldn’t fit in this venue. On the other hand, verse makes up such a small percentage of the content that there may not yet be any established profile for the kind of poetry they’re looking for.
My “filmericks” weren’t big box office at the
Washington Post Style Invitational, but they got a thumbs-up here. Actually, the editors took most of what I submitted, but passed on my
Last Tango in Paris limerick. Its raunchiness is evidently not mild enough.
