This week my Mac was bugged with Trovi, an adware that infects one's search engine (Safari, Firefox etc), makes it very slow then stops it. Trovi is not a virus and only disables your search engine. If your server slows, google 'Trovi remove', there are many sites that will tell you how to find it and remove it.
This is not as serious as cybercrime but can be a stressful problem. I suspect I got infected by watching pirated tv via couchtuner. Silly me.
Anything like that where you download shared material is a risk and not worth it, if trovi can infect you, no doubt the crims will find ways to steal your passwords and your money so being extra good is definitely one way to protect yourself.
