Oh, how I agree with James. I, too, wish that many Bush administration officials had been brought to trial for war crimes. And how I agree with James on how intensely differently people experience these issues: what to some is a matter of philosophical obsession over principles (which—to them—matter more than people), to those on the receiving end of enduring stigma and discrimination, it feels altogether differently. I take great pains to treat my political opponents with respect, in spite of how often I feel the echo of their contempt for the personhood of minorities. In all fairness, I too experience a kind of reverse contempt, and I have to keep myself from expressing it. Ah well, the human experience! No hard feelings, anyone. Thanks for talking.
