I suspect that the choice of Glück, who has built an unassailable literary reputation, was motivated more by a desire to restore credibility to the Committee than to bestow honor on Glück.

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned the tremendous Committee shakeup two years ago:

Followed by the controversial choice of Peter Handke last year, who was widely regarded as having used his visibility to deny or justify Serbia's war crimes in the 1990s.

Does Glück deserve this award? Yes. But that's exactly the point.
