I love Emily D. I think she's a first glimpse of modern and contemporary poetry. Her quirks are wonderful and no small part of what makes her still relevant. Parting isn't at the top of my list of her poems. And it does read, for the most part, as dated. But those last two lines have always stuck with me. I remembered them for years not remembering the poem. And they are clearly, strikingly, modern.
