I was an English professor for thirty years, but have been retired now for five years. I published a number of articles on Shakespeare, Frank Herbert, and Ursula K. Le Guin, as well as presenting articles and chairing sessions at conferences, refereeing an article for a journal, organizing readings by visiting writers on campus, etc. Once I started attending poetry conferences instead of literature conferences, around 2002, I started to transfer my energies to writing poems, translations, and reviews; organizing poetry readings on campus and giving readings of my own poems and translations, appearing on and organizing poetry panels at conferences. After my retirement, I have been translation editor at Better Than Starbucks and have continued to write reviews, blurbs, and essays about poetry, while also doing my own poems and translations. I was planning to continue to attend poetry conferences regularly, but managed to attend just one before the pandemic and then my mother's health prevented me from going. I am hoping to resume doing that eventually.
