My Shmatta
A Frenchman born and bred,
I have to wear a shmatta.
It isn't just a thread,
it's my desiderata.
A Frenchman born and bred,
my shmatta's my religion;
if I exposed my head
I couldn't be a Phrygian.
It's not that hair is sordid
or that my ears are huge
or that my locks are corded
or even subterfuge
or that there's no hot water
or that we're standardized
(it's not about my daughter),
but we've been stigmatized.
